Zahara Marley Jolie, the 21-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has legally dropped “Pitt” from her surname after a Los Angeles Superior Court judge granted her name-change petition on Monday, according to court documents obtained by Page Six (opens in new tab). The ruling is a Page Six (opens in new tab) exclusive: no other outlet has independently reported it, and the order has not been made public.
According to the court documents obtained by Page Six (opens in new tab), Judge Virginia Keeny’s Sept. 28 minute order states, “There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” and changes the petitioner’s name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie. Page Six (opens in new tab) reported that her attorney appeared remotely for the Monday morning hearing at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse.
The hearing was the final step in California’s standard name-change process. TMZ (opens in new tab) reported in July, citing court documents it obtained, that Zahara filed her petition in June, published notice of it in the Los Angeles Daily Journal once a week for four consecutive weeks, and was due for a Sept. 28 hearing at which a judge could approve the request if no one objected.
Sources close to each parent gave Page Six (opens in new tab) sharply different accounts. A source close to Pitt told Page Six (opens in new tab): “This is the latest installment in what complete and total alienation looks like with an extra topping of trying to deflect attention from their ex’s success. Anyone who has actually been a part of this for the last ten years would know that there’s only one side that talks about and has tried to weaponize the kids.”
A second source close to Jolie, whom Page Six (opens in new tab) described as close to the “Maleficent” star, responded: “Today’s hearing was required by law and scheduled months ago by the L.A. court system. It’s a new low to have his camp to spin a conspiracy theory, disavow responsibility for his conduct, and attack his own child. Keep in mind, his daughter has had the grace not to discuss the details of his behavior in public.”
Both accounts come from unnamed sources, and neither is a court finding. Page Six (opens in new tab) did not report on-the-record comment from Zahara, Jolie or Pitt.
Zahara had already stopped using Pitt in public, including when she was introduced as Zahara Marley Jolie at her Spelman College graduation in May. Siblings Maddox and Shiloh previously completed similar legal changes; other siblings have taken steps to stop using Pitt publicly.
Jolie filed for divorce in 2016; the former couple were declared legally single in 2019 before settling their divorce in December 2024.
